LEADING HAND - MACHINIST

YOUR ROLE

This position directs and manages machine shop resources to meet organisational needs, ensuring smooth operations through effective leadership and oversight. When not performing Leading Hand duties, fulfil all core responsibilities of a Machinist



RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform all duties professionally, ensuring that all behaviours and actions comply with workplace policies and legislation.
  • Co-ordinate machine shop workflow, allocating scheduled jobs to team members
  • Provide leadership, technical advice, training, instruction, and guidance to machine shop team members regarding machining expertise.
  • Follow directions from the planning department on job priorities and requirements and provide updates and status reports as needed.
  • Assign jobs to team members to ensure productive outputs.
  • Offer technical advice to internal stakeholders for quotes, job estimates, and effective resource utilisation.
  • Maintain operational equipment, ensuring timely repairs and maintenance.
  • Accurately read, interpret, and work efficiently with engineering drawings, schematics, and instructions.
  • Complete precision work using gauges and measuring instruments within the required tolerances.
  • Oversee machining jobs to ensure they are completed on schedule and meet quality standards.
  • Seek technical advice from internal stakeholders as needed to ensure high-quality machining outputs.



CAPABILITIES

  • Demonstrated experience and ability in managing the expertise of small teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with trade and craft-qualified individuals.
  • Ability to apply rational and focused problem-solving to quickly and accurately resolve issues within the department and area of expertise.
  • Contribution to best practice processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong organisational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Ability to influence and foster a positive and productive workplace culture aligned with the company's strategic objectives, vision, and values.



KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Relevant trade or tertiary qualifications
  • Knowledgeable in contemporary machining techniques
  • Ability to be able to multitask and handle various types of jobs
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills
  • Reliable with a strong work ethic
  • A current High-Risk Forklift license
