The Role

You will be part of the Property and Facilities team, responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient operation of HVAC, refrigeration and other critical building systems across multiple campus sites. This role requires both hands on technical work and coordination of maintenance services to support the institution's teaching, research and operational needs. You will monitor equipment performance, carry out inspections and work on preventative, corrective and statutory maintenance programs while contributing to broader facilities projects and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • HVAC & Refrigeration Maintenance: Inspect, maintain, and repair heating, cooling and refrigeration systems, including chilled water systems, compressed air systems, fume cupboards and building management systems.
  • Maintenance Coordination: Plan, schedule and manage preventative, corrective and project based maintenance tasks.
  • Project Participation: Support upgrades, installations, commissioning and defect management of building systems, ensuring alignment with operational requirements.
  • Team and Contractor Supervision: Direct contractors and internal staff, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, within budget and to the required standard.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Provide technical guidance to staff, clients and contractors; ensure maintenance work complements campus operations and teaching programs.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records and documentation of systems, assets and maintenance activities.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance service delivery, safety, efficiency and reliability of building systems.
  • After-Hours Support: Participate in on call and after hours maintenance support as required.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure work aligns with legislative requirements, university policies and sustainable practices, promoting a safe working environment.

About You

  • Proven experience as an HVAC Technician in complex buildings or technical facilities, including laboratories or specialised facilities.
  • Current Restricted Electrical Licence and/or QLD Refrigerant Handling Licence.
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems in large, complex buildings, including HVAC, chilled water, compressed air, vacuum systems and building management systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve diverse maintenance issues using structured problem solving approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate teams, contractors and stakeholders effectively.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and collaboration skills.
