Our client is a leading innovator in manufacturing and distributing long steel products. They are Australia's only fully vertically integrated steel manufacturing utilising scrap metal recycling and downstream distribution. 

They are seeking a Mechanical Technician with Mechanical, Hydraulics and Pneumatic experience to assist with their manufacturing operations a wide variety of steel for concrete infrastructure based at their St Mary's warehouse.

Key responsibilities:

This role will involve; sourcing and ordering of basic parts - standard / consumables (includes use of commercial system where appropriate), Maintaining machine files to standard required. Operating using special work orders (eg: clearances, confined space, tag outs, etc), Participating in audit processes / risk / job safety analysis / contractor management, Participating in resolving safety issues in the manufacturing warehouse.

Other tasks may include: 

  • Fault finding, including understanding of low voltage field devices (eg. solenoids, proximity & limit switches)
  • Understanding of principles and application of hydraulic systems
  • Read hydraulic circuits
  • Understand hydraulic components from drawings
  • Understanding of principles and application of pneumatic systems
  • Read pneumatic circuits
  • Understand pneumatic components from drawings
  • Design basic pneumatic circuits including relevant component sizing / selection
  • Understand different types of control valves
  • Interpret mechanical drawings
  • Strip and rebuild mechanical components
  • Manufacture and repair simple replacement parts, (e.g. pins, shafts, bushes, rollers etc) using cutting /machining / grinding equipment.
  • Basic welding (non-structural)

Essential Criteria

  • Trade qualification - Mechanical / Hydraulic fitting
  • Experience with troubleshooting, fault identification and rectification
  • A good level of physical fitness 
  • Comfortable with manual handling - able to lift 20kg-25kg consistently 
  • Have a hardworking, self-motivated attitude 
  • Able to pass a pre-employment Drug and Alcohol
