Our client is an Australian technology company focused on the commercialisation of innovative laser enrichment technology for application to Uranium production and enrichment, Silicon enrichment and other medical equipment.

The role:

Reporting to the Engineering Manager at their Lucas Heights site, you will be responsible for delivering the mechanical components for welding laser related and novel isotope separation equipment as wells and gas handling and plant systems.

This role will have a principal focus on the TIG welding aspects for stainless steel components in order to construct clean and pressure rated assemblies for development projects with some focus on technician and assembly work as required from time to time.

Your responsibilities in this role will include:

  • A range of TIF Welding aspects including:
    • Supplied components to construct hermitically sealed vacuum and pressure rated assemblies as required.
    • Tubing and fittings to fabricate vacuum and pressure rated plumbing for designed gas handling systems and process equipment.
    • Other components, including frames, handling equipment, and lab infrastructure.
  • Leak checking of sealed assemblies after welding
  • Adhering to and following quality control processes
  • Aid in the construction and assembly of process, plant and laboratory equipment as required
  • Liaising with the engineering team to improve weld preparation details
  • Identifying and raising construction issues as they arise, with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Servicing of project equipment through welding repairs as required
  • Managing welding supplies and gases
  • Maintaining a safe, clean and organised work environment in the mechanical assembly laboratories for all staff
  • Reporting of any safety or environmental incidents, unsafe acts and conditions or near misses to management as required
  • Adhering to the company work health and safety procedures as well as environmental policies, procedures and legislative requirements
  • Ensuring the safe handling of all equipment and materials.
  • Adhering to the company security policies and procedures at all times
  • May be required to complete other tasks as required

About You
To be considered for this role, you must possess:

  • Certificate VII in Gas tungsten-arc welding (GTAW)
  • Ideally hold 5+ years of experience in a relevant position
  • Demonstrated experience in stainless steel TIG welding (including pressure vessels)
  • Extensive experience in stainless steel TIG welding essential
  • Experience in welding pressure rated vessels highly desired
  • Experience with using purge gases highly desired
  • High purity gas handling system or gas-based plant system welding experience with specific experience in scientific, high vacuum, or semiconductor systems
  • Orbital welding experience
  • Manual fabrication and assembly skills (desired)
  • Ability to read and understand 2D drawings and assemblies (desired)
  • Ability to execute allocated tasks within Project deadlines
  • Self-motivated, selecting and expediting tasks to achieve overall project success
  • Ability to also work autonomously and multi-task
  • Attention to detail in order to identify potential problems and finding innovative and practical solutions
  • Ability to research welding techniques required, with a learn on-the-go capability
  • Ability to communicate effectively, in both verbal and written communications, with both internal and external stake holders
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite software (desired)
  • Desired experienced using 3D CAD software
