Position Purpose

The Safety and Wellbeing (S&W) Partner will act as the first point of contact and provide advisory and operational support for the delivery of workplace safety and wellbeing compliance in accordance with legislation, certification, accreditation and internal governance.

The S&W Partner will support the effective management of a range of day to day operational safety and wellbeing matters ensuring services deliver maximum value to our internal customers and the organisation as a whole.

You will provide specialist advice and support on a broad range of safety matters including risk assessments, incident reporting and investigations, managing the S&W inbox and responding to queries from employees, volunteers and contractors.

This role will also contribute to our transformation journey, by supporting, and implementing ongoing improvements to our processes and practices that help drive simple and consistent ways of working.

Reporting to the S&W Lead and as part of Service Delivery the position will have an operational focus working closely with the strategic business partnering function and Centre of Expertise to deliver, implement, mitigate risk and harness a 'one team approach' within the PCD function.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality advice, efficient problem solving and service to the organisation on daily S&W operational requests.
  • Handle all administrative tasks for the S&W team including entering data into information systems and auditing for accuracy and compliance of documentation and record management.
  • Conduct workplace assessments, undertake audits and internal investigations.
  • Participate in site meetings and planning activities involving S&W matters.
  • Deliver S&W training and manage training needs and competencies.
  • Develop, review and communicate S&W policies, standards, procedures and associated documentation.
  • Support the development, implementation and maintenance of broader S&W strategic initiatives and program.
  • Perform a wide range of safety and wellbeing related processes and tasks, handle sensitive information while maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Assist to develop, implement and coordinate sound safety and wellbeing practices and procedures to enable a safe and healthy working environment for Council employees, contractors and volunteers.
  • Support the Safety and Wellbeing Team in the continuous improvement of Council's integrated risk, safety and wellbeing strategies and objectives.
  • Contribute to the design, development and implementation of an integrated safety and wellbeing strategy, framework and positive cultural change.
  • Provide information to employees, contractors and volunteers on expectations as prescribed in its safety and wellbeing systems.
  • Developing strong relationships both internally and externally in the delivery of high quality, customer focused services and the provision of S&W advice.

  • This role may also be required to carry out other such duties as are within the limits of the employee's skills competence and training

Skills and Experience

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, with the proven ability to prepare high quality reports, relevant documentation and training sessions to all levels of staff related to safety and wellbeing.
  • Proven competency in the provision of expert advice, excellent customer service and administrative functions of collaborative case management.
  • Demonstrated experience with developing and implementing contractor safety management programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess safety documentation, identify shortfalls and provide recommendations for improvement
  • Ability to influence and drive change through S&W initiatives and programs.
  • Experience in understanding and applying OHS legislation and guidance.
  • Demonstrated experience in document control with experience in compiling metrics and reports.
  • Computing skills in Microsoft Office packages.
  • Sound conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong collaborative skills and an engaging manner with the ability to influence and gain assistance from others.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of relevant Victorian OHS and injury rehabilitation legislation.
  • Good understanding of safety and wellbeing principles, systems and procedures, with current knowledge of relevant legislation, codes and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of regulated occupational health and safety elements.
  • Development and delivery of safety and wellbeing training within areas of expertise.
  • Experience and knowledge of internal and external management system audit processes.
  • Experience in supporting the implementation of organisational safety and wellbeing systems and programs.
  • Report writing and records management skills.
  • Degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety and some relevant experience OR lesser formal qualifications with substantial experience (or through substantial experience in the field of expertise).
  • Demonstrated occupational health, safety & wellbeing advisory experience in a multi-disciplinary organisation.
  • WorkSafe approved 2-day Role of a Return to Work Coordinator training (desirable)
