Our client is a New Zealand owned and operated company, based in Australia specialising as a compliance managed manufacturer of 'niche market' coatings, chemicals, and aerosol products.

As well as manufacturing and marketing products under our own brands, we also offer a fully integrated contract manufacturing service that encompasses product development, as well as warehousing and distribution.

They are looking for a hardworking and dedicated full time permanent Leading Hand to assist with supporting the the Factory & Warehouse Coordinator, and to supervise the factory team in all daily requirements across quality, efficiency, safe practices, and teamwork.

The role is working Monday to Thursday, 7am-3:30pm with shorter days on Fridays, 7am-1:30pm.

The role:

Reporting to the Site Manager, this position will oversee and coordinate daily operations in a manufacturing factory environment. Key responsibilities include ensuring department operation is a well organised and efficient operating area, output quality of meets the customer and the company standards, producing pick and pack product as directed by the Manager/Supervisor, and maintaining regulatory requirements and company policies are maintained consistently in production areas.

The role involves managing workload, providing training and support to team members, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organization, playing a key role in achieving efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Factory
    • Ensure batches are completed according to batch ticket instructions; query any changes or areas not clear with Manager.
    • Fill off finished goods accurately, as required.
    • Perform assigned functions to an acceptable standard and pace.
    • Ensure work area is tidy at the end of each day and week and equipment is cleaned after use.
    • If equipment requires maintenance, notify the Manager/Supervisor, and where authorised undertake/manage maintenance work to completion.
    • Undertake training to increase skills
    • Ensure tasks are well balanced to achieve an efficient outcome.
    • Plan workload for staff according to skill and requirement.
  • Processes and Procedures
    • Suggest and update practices and procedures as is necessary.
  • Safety, Health, and Environment Management
    • Safe and healthy work practices are maintained at all times.
    • Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) are followed and implemented for machine or process activities.
    • Any unsafe practice is to be reported immediately, hazards identified, and resolutions performed when required.
    • Ensure others act safely and in accordance with health and safety rules.
    • Ensure any scene of serious harm remains undisturbed until directed by a Senior Manager.
    • Ensure workspace is tidy and organised at all times.
    • Hazard and Risk Management, Incident Reporting and Recording requirements, will be undertaken in line with company Group Health & Safety Manual procedures.
    • Site induction procedures are consistently followed and performed as necessary.
    • Ensure adherence to quality standards in all processes.
    • Implement measures to continuously improve product quality.
  • Customer Service
    • Provide a high level of customer service internally and externally
    • Treat others as internal customers.
  • Efficiency
    • Efforts are focussed on achieving the required targets.
    • Prioritise and actively seek and identify opportunities for process improvement.
    • Work with the team to implement streamlined processes.
    • Look for and encourage others to look for duties to be completed during periods of quietness.
    • Assist other team units when there are periods of quiet time.
    • Suggest updates to practices and procedures via appropriate channels.
  • Performance Monitoring, Supervision and Support:
    • Assist the Factory & Warehouse Coordinator in managing daily requirements.
    • Provide guidance and supervision to the factory team.
    • Foster a culture of teamwork and collaboration.
    • Monitor performance metrics to gauge efficiency and quality.
    • Address any issues hindering performance promptly.
  • Training and Development/Housekeeping Standards:
    • Maintain high standards of housekeeping in engineering areas.
    • Implement protocols for cleanliness and organization.
    • Provide training and development opportunities for team members.
    • Ensure all team members are equipped with necessary skills.

About You
To be considered for this role, you must possess the following

  • The position requires flexibility in terms of working hours and the nature of the work.
  • Proven experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience ideal - client is willing to train candidates who can show commitment and dedication to step up into a higher-level position with suitable and relevant manufacturing experience.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
  • Strong level of computer skills required.
  • Forklift licence with experience is highly regarded
  • Ability to adjust quickly to changing circumstances and tasks, maintaining productivity and effectiveness.
  • Hold strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with various stakeholders and represent the organization professionally.
  • Skill in managing conflicting priorities and resolving disputes in a fair and timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by example, motivate others, and foster a positive and productive work environment.

  • Must be able to complete and pass a Police Check.
