Our client is an Australian technology company focused on the commercialisation of innovative laser enrichment technology for application to Uranium production and enrichment, Silicon enrichment and other medical equipment.

The role:

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this position will provide mechanical and technical services including mechanical construction, assembly, commissioning and maintenance of novel laser isotope separation equipment, gas handling and plant systems.

The role will have the primary focus of hands-on technician and assembly work, and the secondary focus will include documentation, maintenance and participation in technical risk analysis and design feedback.

This role is subject to the incumbent's ability to hold an Australian national security clearance as well as their ongoing ability to maintain site access. Your responsibilities in this role will include:

Mechanical Construction:

  • Construction and assembly of mechanical process equipment (including mechanical components related to laser system construction) in accordance with design documentation.
  • Assembly of process gas handling systems (GHS) and associated equipment.
  • Various manual fabrication tasks (such as drilling, machining, and welding) to support equipment construction activities, as required.
  • Construction of laboratory infrastructure to support process plant equipment. Mechanical

Commissioning:

  • Aid in the commissioning of constructed process and GHS equipment.
  • Adoption and implementation of formalised QA/QC processes.
  • Identify issues as they arise and assist in applying solutions, with a focus on continuous improvement.

Design and Review:

  • Participate in design reviews, and in project planning sessions.
  • Aid in mechanical component design and documentation as required.

Mechanical Facility:

  • Support operation and maintenance of constructed technology systems in accordance with project objectives.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organised work environment in the mechanical assembly laboratories.

Work Health and Safety (WHS) / Security:

  • Immediately report any safety or environmental incidents, unsafe acts, and conditions or near misses to the Company's management.
  • Adhere to the Company's WHS, environmental policies, procedures and legislative requirements relating to the work being undertaken to ensure own safety and that of others in the workplace, and to minimise or eliminate any environmental impacts.
  • Ensure safe handling of all equipment and materials.
  • Contribute to the safety culture by proactively applying WHS principles to the planning, execution, and conclusion of all activities.
  • Always adhere to the Company's security policies and procedures.

General:

  • Perform any other task as required by the Engineering Manager, Operations Manager, or other senior management.
  • Ensure that the Engineering Manager is consulted with regards to technical matters, and any issues related to project deliverables.


About You
To be considered for this role, you must possess.

  • Extensive manual fabrication and assembly experience
    • Stainless steel TIG welding experience highly desired
  • Gas handling systems or gas-based plant equipment assembly:
    • Scientific, high vacuum, or semiconductor systems experience highly desired.
    • Experience in high purity systems highly desired.
  • Ability to read and understand 2D drawings and assemblies.
  • Capable of planning, designing, and execution of required tasks and responsibilities.
  • Ability to execute allocated tasks within Project deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, prioritising and expediting tasks to achieve ultimate project success.
  • Flexible and team-oriented person, ability to work in a collaborative environment that embraces diversity, inclusiveness, and superior outcomes.
  • Ability to also work autonomously, multi-task and prioritise work demands.
  • Attention to detail, identifying potential problems and finding innovative and practical solutions.
  • Ability to research mechanical characteristics required, with learn on-the-go ability to arrive at efficient and effective solutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written communications, with a collaborative working style that fosters good relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite software desirable.
  • Experience using 3D CAD software is highly desirable.
